Providing a second path

The Washington Network for Innovative Careers (WaNIC), as a tenant of Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWIT), Administration suite had only one entry and exit, leaving employees with limited options in an active shooter situation. SV developed three design options: a direct door to the main hallway, a door through an existing unused office, and a reconfiguration turning that office and an adjacent one into a hallway connecting to an existing locker area. The direct-door option was set aside since it could still put people in the main hallway near the shooter's likely path. The selected option lets people exit further from the office's main entry and out of its line of sight, giving true separation rather than just a second door.
