Tufts University Physical Therapy Program Seattle
Seattle, WA
Moving west
After the success of their hybrid Physical Therapy program in Arizona, Tufts University wanted to provide another west coast opportunity for students. The PT program involves several semesters of virtual classes before integrating an in person learning component. Students spend approximately two weeks per semester in Seattle, making the in person aspect of the program intense.
In that regard, both the selection of the building and the design of the space needed to provide multiple locations for student's individual and group studying. Tufts toured several buildings in the downtown corridor before selecting a building with underground access to a large food court, fitness center, and common use lounge space. Smaller study spaces, from one-person to six-person rooms and nooks were interspersed between the classrooms.
The space also included two classrooms, both outfitted with PT tables throughout, and a faculty area. Additionally, with Tufts being an east coast based institution, the program director requested a lounge that could double as space for alumni events.
Amanda completed this project at a previous firm and was responsible for all test fits, with several of the test fits developed into space plans.
