University of Denver Men’s Hockey Facility

Denver, CO

A place for champions

The men’s hockey facility at the University of Denver had several serious problems - the locker room was far from the ice and it’s mechanical system was not robust enough to handle typical hockey drying requirements, the sauna was unusable, the layout was inefficient and small, and in general, it was not the recruiting gem reflective of a then seven-time NCAA championship program.

The new design placed the player’s lounge at the farthest end of the facility from the ice allowing the spaces most utilized during games to move closer to the rink. A dedicated dry locker room was included in the facility, along with coach referee locker areas, and a video room. The restroom and shower facilities were expanded and the physical therapy area was enlarged.

As with most team facility designs, branding was especially important and the use of crimson and gold was prevalent throughout. Additionally, several walls were dedicated to name and infographic installations to highlight the history of the program.

While at a previous firm, Amanda completed schematic design and design development before the project went on hold; this design was not built.
